Check out our top tips on keeping your drains in good condition!
- If you do have a problem, make sure you know where your mains water stop cock is both inside and outside your house and ensure you have a stopcock key in case you need to turn the water off in an emergency.
- Do a regular check on your gutters and grids to keep them free from fallen leaves and other debris.
- Fit drain covers to prevent garden debris being washed into the system. You can also use drain guards on your plug holes to reduce the amount of waste getting washed down your sink.
- Do not use chemical cleaners to clean your drains. These are often only short term and if you are noticing a problem it is likely being caused by a larger blockage or damaged pipe. These chemical substances can also cause damage to both the environment and your drainage system. The harsh chemicals, particularly acid can weaken pipes which can lead to fractures and collapses. We would recommend a more permanent solution, such as a investigative CCTV survey.
