JN Bentley contract DrainsAid for five week CIPP lining project.

As one of Wakefield’s most experienced drainage contractors in Wakefield, DrainsAid often complete complex projects throughout the Yorkshire region. On occasion we also work with other well-known remediation and utility contractors; as was the case with a recent task we completed on the North Yorkshire Coastline.

Where the project took place:

Our journey took us to the civil parish of Hinderwell, where we worked with JN Bentley, a subsidiary of Mott MacDonald Bentley and a leading contractor in the water, utilities, and environmental sectors, to name but a few. Together with a leading utilities organisation, we had the opportunity to conduct various Steam Cure CIPP installations on a sewer that stretched 1.3km. The sewer was over capacity and suffered from infiltrations because of roots and cavities.

How did we complete the drainage project?

The five-week project consisted of:

  • Relining 1.3km of 225mm combined sewer which ran from the village of Hinderwell to a local Yorkshire Water sewage treatment plant.
  • Using steam cure application at certain lengths to perform better against infiltration.

The relining was necessary as a result of the over-capacity flow of water and wastewater that was present in the pipes. In addition to this, because the line ran through farmland and highways, root cavities caused heavy infiltration at various points. This presented a challenge throughout the project.

Drains Aid - Steam Cure Re-lining

One huge advantage of using the ‘steam cure’ method is the reduction of the installation and cure time when compared to traditional methods. Additionally, the site footprint is reduced which allowed us to get equipment in and out with minimal disruption.

The team of engineers consisted of Malcom MacDonald, Wayne Egan, Nick Maricic, Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Egan amongst several more, all of whom can be immensely proud for assisting at various points and taking the challenge with great enthusiasm and determination.

When it comes to sewage, drainage, and wastewater facility solutions, DrainsAid have an extensive history of completing projects as challenging as this one.
