Employee Profile with Malcolm McDonald.
Hi Malcolm, nice to meet you! What do you do at DrainsAid?
I am a Reline Foreman.
When did you start working at DrainsAid?
I started working at DrainsAid in 2011 so I’ve been here for around 4 years now.
What did you do before DrainsAid?
I was a foreman at another company before, but unfortunately it went into administration. I contacted the head office at DrainsAid and they offered me and my team a job!
Tell us about a typical day in your role?
A typical day at DrainsAid for me begins at 6am. I start at this time so I can plan out the day for my team who start working at 7am. My job is to plan the work that needs to be done, using the right resources to ensure the work is completed to the highest standard within their time frame. I am also regularly on site planning and evaluating difficult jobs, such as those in fields or over rivers. These kind of jobs can be very challenging, but due to the hard work and unity of the team we never fail to succeed.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy everything about my job; I think DrainsAid are a very good firm to work for and I am very happy here.
What would you say has been your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement has been becoming a foreman, and my ambition for the future is to progress within the company.
What is the most interesting/difficult job you have worked on at DrainsAid?
I have planned a lot of challenging jobs whilst at DrainsAid, but the most recent project was lining a 208m long, 375mm diameter sewer in the River Ouse in York. We had to work on a platform that was approximately 2.5m x 4m, and all of the work had to be done from the water by way of a barge.
What do you like to do with your spare time?
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my wife and four children. My 13 year old son loves to play rugby so we frequently go and cheer him on!
